Stone the flamin' crows

Everyone's favourite surf club president (is he? Or did I make that up?) Alf Stewart, as in Ray Meagher has been nominated for Australia's most prestigious television accolade, the Gold Logie. Logie. Why is it called that? It just makes it sound cheap. You don't hear the Academy Awards called, OK so they are called Academy's but the Oscars aren't called the Oscies. If they were it would just sound cheap. Good luck Alf. Considering it's based on the public vote, I say he has it in the bag. Everyone loves a good boganism and Alf is the master of the occa saying. Vote #1 Ray!

I am cooler than you. Deal with it.

As if this chick isn't super cool. The combo of hair, rolled up sleeves, and the I-am-so-much-better-than-you hand on hip. Oh, and of course the hilarious painted on lips. Nuf said.

The books I want to read

I've never been a reader. I've never been the type to sit on the bus reading the latest epic by Judy Nunn or the wizardy wonders of Harry Potter. But, as I get older (and not necessarily wiser) I feel like it's something I'm missing out on. There must be something amazing about reading, otherwise library's, Dymocks and old women everywhere would be rendered useless (ok, so the old women would still have a purpose!)

I tell a bit of a lie. I used to read a lot. When I was much younger, like 10 or so, I used to love reading. But then something happened, perhaps it was because I read so much at a young age but I tend to feel it is because once you turn about 15, you're expected to move into big, "adult" type novels and away form Morris Gleitzman books and Tracy's Beakers dramas. So I probably gave up a bit too easily, I realise that. Then when 'chick lit' was all the rage (I know it still is) I tried my best to get into reading again. But to me, they were all the same. Woman in late 20s breaks up with boyfriend, life falls apart, seeks out new job, gets it, life all ends up peachy. The formula started to annoy me and I felt like I was being dumbed down, and I (and all women kind, in my opinion) think I am better than that!!

Now, I find myself drawn to works from specific authors. Zoe Foster, (primped.com.au) has the most exciting style so I am waiting with baited breath to read her new book "textbook romance: a step-by-step guide to getting the guy". What makes it extra awesome is Hamish Blake co-authored it. And everyone knows he is about the funniest thing ever. Seriously! It should be great, especially if it is anything like her first book. Her first book "Air Kisses" has fast become one of my favourites. But how could it not when it follows the travels of a beauty editor of a women's lifestyle magazine... Pretty much my dream job! One day Jessica, one day!

Also, sitting on my bed side (it is my 'I'm trying really hard to start reading again' pile, ad it grows every day with out any dent being made in it!) is: Mama Mia by Mia Freedman (yes, I know both books mentioned so far are ex-ACPites!), L.A Candy by Lauren Conrad. That's the end of the light weight books for now.

Right this second I am reading the "new" issue of CLEO (October 2009) and I think it is bloody brilliant. An article I loved was the 10,000 hour rule by Candie Chung (who is also CLEO.com.au web editor) which mentioned a number of books that sound great.

Outliners: The Story Of Success by Malcolm Gladwell
Talent Is Overrated by Nicholas Brealy

That's the end of my book to-read list. No doubt it will grow, probably tomorrow, but for the mean time, those are the ones I want to get through.

It's time for sleep, or at least time to finish reading CLEO. (Plus the BF has Michael Clayton on the TV and it's pretty intriguing!)

Robin Wright Penn will always be Buttercup to me.
